White collar travellers caught out by flight disruption

Over the past week, much of northern Europe has been under a no-fly zone due to the ash cloud produced by the volcanic eruption in Iceland. While holidaymakers have been hit hard, either being stuck away from home or having their holidays canceled before they leave, the focus is now shifting to how white collar workers are being affected.

With a lot of the holidaymakers stuck abroad having jobs to come back to, the number of days extra leave they have been forced to take have been hitting their employers hard. Workers are stuck in the situation of using up more annual leave for a situation out of their control or going unpaid totally.

The situation is also affecting those who travel as part of their job. There will be many workers who are now stuck in foreign countries, waiting for their flight home, who will be costing their employers more in terms of accommodation, re-arranged flights and lost of time working back home.

Are you affected by the flight disruption, either at home or abroad? Has your business taken a hit through people being unable to get back to work? Give us your stories!
