Female white-collar workers suffer burnout more
Burnout is a condition which has been garnering a lot of attention over the last few years as employers try to get more out of their staff. The circumstances of work-related burnout are now beginning to be understood more clearly, and as one study has shown, women and men can suffer from the condition for very different reasons.
Women who find themselves in high positions within companies are usually occupying roles more commonly filled by men, causing increased gender conflict and in some cases greater workplace discrimination. When interviewed, many of these women expressed unhappiness in their jobs and felt that they had to over-compensate by taking more responsibilities in both their private and working lives in order to be valued or recognised as much as their peers.
While these reasons all seem pretty straightforward, a concrete link is now being formed between working environment and stress related burnout. The study concludes that keeping an eye on employee exhaustion earlier would help in ensuring burnout does not become an issue.
